Where do downloaded videos go on iPhone and Android?
When you save a video with SaveArrow, your browser downloads the file just like any other download. SaveArrow doesn’t keep a copy, so the file exists only on your device. Where it ends up depends on your device and browser. This guide shows where to look and how to move the video to Photos or your gallery.
iPhone and iPad
In Safari, tap the file you want to save. If Safari asks whether you want to download it, tap Download. While the file downloads, a downloads icon appears next to the address bar; tap it to see the progress and the finished file.
Finished downloads are saved in the Files app:
- Open the Files app.
- Go to iCloud Drive or On My iPhone (On My iPad), then open the Downloads folder. Which one is used depends on your Safari settings.
- Tap the video to play it.
Files in the Downloads folder don’t show up in the Photos app on their own. To add a video to Photos, open it in the Files app, tap the Share button, then tap Save Video. You can do the same from Safari’s downloads list. For a photo, tap Save Image instead. Audio files (MP3 or M4A) and subtitle files stay in the Files app, where you can open or share them.
If you use Chrome or another browser on iPhone, look in the Files app under On My iPhone for a folder with the browser’s name, or open the downloads list inside that browser.
Android
On Android, most browsers save files to the Download folder on your phone.
- In Chrome, tap the three-dot menu, then Downloads, to see your files.
- Or open your file manager app (called Files, My Files or File Manager on different phones) and go to Download.
Many gallery apps show downloaded videos in an album called Download. If the video isn’t in your gallery, open it in the file manager and use Share or Move to put it where you want. Audio, photo and subtitle files are in the same place.
Computers
On Windows, Mac and Linux, files go to your Downloads folder unless you chose a different location in your browser’s settings. You can also open the browser’s download list from the downloads icon in the toolbar. It shows each file and lets you open the folder it was saved in.
If you opened the page inside another app
When you tap a link inside TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X or a chat app, it often opens in that app’s built-in browser rather than in Safari or Chrome. These in-app browsers sometimes can’t save files, or they save them somewhere hard to find.
If nothing happens when you tap a file, or you can’t find it afterwards, open the page in your regular browser. Look for an option such as Open in browser, Open in Safari or Open in Chrome in the app’s menu, often behind a three-dot icon; the wording differs from app to app. You can also open Safari or Chrome yourself, go to savearrow.com and paste the link again.
If the video won’t play
Some HD files, especially from TikTok, use the H.265 video format. A few older Windows and Android devices can’t play it: the file may not open, or it may play without a picture. SaveArrow marks these options as H.265. If a file doesn’t play, go back and choose an H.264 option when one is shown. Another video player app may also be able to play it.
If a file seems incomplete, the download may have stopped partway. Some higher-quality YouTube files are assembled while they download and can’t be resumed, so keep the page open until the download finishes.
If you can’t find the file at all
- Check your browser’s download list to see whether the download finished or failed.
- Look in the Downloads folder of the Files app (iPhone) or in your file manager (Android), not only in Photos or the gallery.
- SaveArrow’s download links expire after 10 minutes. If yours has expired, paste the video link again to get fresh ones.
- SaveArrow doesn’t keep copies of videos or a history of the links you paste, so if you deleted the file, paste the original link again.
