Download TED Talks with Subtitles

Paste the link of a talk from ted.com and save it as an MP4 to watch offline. When TED has subtitles in the talk’s language, you can keep them as an .srt file.

How to download a TED talk

  1. 01

    Copy the talk’s link

On ted.com, open the talk and copy the address from your browser’s address bar. In the TED app, tap Share on the talk and copy the link from the share menu.

  2. 02

    Paste it into SaveArrow

Put the link, which starts with ted.com/talks/, in the field above and tap Download. SaveArrow then lists the files it can save for that talk.

  3. 03

    Pick video, audio or subtitles

Choose MP4 for the talk itself, MP3 for just the audio, or the .srt file for the subtitles. Each file goes to your browser’s Downloads.

What you can save from a TED talk

  • Any talk on ted.com

Every talk with a ted.com/talks link works, whether you found it on the TED website or in the TED app. SaveArrow saves it as an MP4 that plays on phones, tablets and computers, even without a connection.

  • Subtitles as .srt

When a talk has subtitles in the language it was given in, you can save them as an .srt file. Load it in a video player next to the MP4, or keep the text to read and study later.

  • Audio as MP3

Rather listen on a walk or a commute? Choose MP3 and SaveArrow converts the talk’s sound on the fly while it downloads, so you get an audio file that plays almost anywhere.

  • Free, in any browser

Open savearrow.com in Safari, Chrome or another browser on iPhone, iPad, Android or a computer. There’s nothing to install and no sign-up, and SaveArrow doesn’t store the talks or keep a history of your links.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download TED talks with subtitles?

Yes, when the talk has them. SaveArrow offers the subtitles in the talk’s language as an .srt file, a small text file you can load in a video player alongside the MP4.

Can I reuse a TED talk I downloaded?

TED talks are shared under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND license: personal, non-commercial use with credit to TED, and no edits. Respect that license and the speaker’s rights when you save a talk.

What format and quality is a TED talk download?

The talk is saved as an MP4 video in the quality TED provides for it. You can also save the audio as MP3 and, when available, the subtitles as .srt.

Where do downloaded TED talks go on iPhone and Android?

On iPhone, look in Safari’s Downloads or the Files app; on Android, in the browser’s Downloads or the Files app. From there you can move the video to Photos or your gallery.

Can I download a TED event while it’s streamed live?

No. Only published talks with a ted.com/talks link can be saved; TED events streamed live aren’t supported. Once a talk is published on ted.com, paste its link instead.

Why won’t my TED talk download?

Make sure you pasted the link of a single talk, starting with ted.com/talks/, and not a playlist or topic page. Download links expire after 10 minutes, so paste the link again for fresh ones.
